Hamilton: We may have made a mistake with the strategy

Lewis Hamilton finished second in Mexico City, stating that Mercedes may have made a mistake in choosing a strategy…

Lewis Hamilton: “An astonishing number of people this weekend, they were very emotional today, and I was booed all day. However, I love Mexico and these fans. Great race and great weekend for spectators.

In the first stint I was very close to Max’s pace, but today the Red Bull car was too fast for us. Maybe they chose a better strategy.

I’m not sure if the hard tires were the best choice for the second leg of the race, and the soft tires did better in the first leg, but we chose different tires.

Congratulations to Max, it’s great to be here and share the Red Bull drivers at the finish.”

George Russell (4th): “I had a good start but lost two positions on the first lap and the Medium-Hard strategy turned out to be wrong. I couldn’t get the hard tires to work, there was just no grip.

Red Bull and Ferrari started with Soft, we have to understand why other teams chose this composition – and they did, and we made a different choice. What happened will be a lesson for us. Obviously we could get closer to the opponents if we used the same strategy.

We’ll see how it goes in Brazil and while I don’t think we’ll be as competitive there as in Mexico, I’m happy to see the team’s progress.”
