At Interlagos, Kevin Magnussen retired on the first lap after the incident with Daniel Ricciardo, but he was able to pit after the finish and not immediately. In Abu Dhabi he told about his adventures.
Kevin Magnussen: “After retirement I couldn’t return to the pits right away. Daniel pushed me off the track, then got in the safety car and went to the pits, and I spent the whole race on the side of the track. I tried to talk to the marshals, but they didn’t speak a word of English – literally not a word.
After the race I waited for someone to pick me up, but the marshals started to leave. I went with them, but ended up at the gate, which I couldn’t get around. Of course I could go all out and avoid the start-finish line, but there were fans. The marshals realized I was in trouble, they had to cut a hole in the fence and give me a push to get out.
After that I got apologies from officials for not picking me up. I was glad I’m not Lewis Hamilton and the race is not in Zandvoort.
