Former Formula 1 driver Nikita Mazepin said the swimming world record set by the two-time Olympic medalist Kliment Kolesnikov motivates him.
Mazepin visited the Russian Short Course Swimming Championship, which takes place in Kazan as part of the second stage of the Friendship Games. The day before the competition, Kolesnikov broke the world record for the 50m backstroke.
Swimming is one of my favorite sports. I can’t say I’m very good at it. I swim myself, but here’s your chance to review such a skill – a world record was set yesterday! As an athlete, this motivates me a lot. Guys and girls are good comrades,” Mazepin told reporters.
Mazepin noted that all sports have something in common, including motorsport with swimming.
– In this case, it’s a split second and a lot of excitement. You won’t have time to blink: maybe during this time someone has already managed to jump into the pool,” he added.
