Hywel Thomas: “In preparation for 2022, we knew that the power plants would be “frozen” for the next three years, so we tried to refine them as much as possible, putting a really big effort into this.
But already during the tests it became clear that the construction of the engines takes the strongest blows, especially their lower part. When Toto Wolff arrived at Brixworth he was very surprised by the appearance of some of the parts removed from the engines, realizing how hard they hit the ground.
As the season progressed you saw how unimportant Lewis and George sometimes felt when they left the cockpit, the powerplants felt much the same – they got it great when they swayed.
