December 31 – Hermann Tilke’s birthday

Racecourse architect Hermann Tilke accepts birthday wishes on the last day of the year. Head of Bureau Tilke Ingenieure & Architekten is 68 years old.

Since 1998, Tilke is the creator of almost all new Formula 1 circuits, has worked with Moscow Raceway, Sochi Autodrom and many more Russian circuits. Tilke’s decisions are often criticized, the racers prefer the “old school” tracks, but Herman explains this by the fact that he is forced to work under strict restrictions that were not there before.

“Each track has to be unique in its own way,” Tilke said in an interview with F1News.Ru. – Let’s take the same Monza and Spa: they are really unique, it is impossible to copy them. And no one wants copies to appear. Everyone wants the new circuits to be different and we listen to that.

The ideal route does not exist. And if so, its length should be at least 300 km, so that all my ideas can be realized there. But this, as you understand, is unrealistic.
