The journalists from Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport made their own assessment of teams after the first race of the season, putting Red Bull Racing in first place and McLaren in last place.
German journalists consider Aston Martin to be Red Bull Racing’s main rival – if AMR23 is inferior to Ferrari in qualifying, then it has a distance advantage due to less rubber wear. According to its characteristics, the Aston Martin machine is most similar to the Red Bull, including the work with rubber.
Ferrari has last year’s problems. During a race, the tires lose their efficiency prematurely and the riders have to slow down. Mercedes managed to get rid of the sway and add top speed, but the car lacks downforce in corners.
At the end of the back of the field, Williams took the lead. In one fast lap, the FW45 is still the slowest, but it has the least tire wear. The Haas is the opposite – the car is effective in one lap, but quickly wears out the tires over the distance. Upsets last place McLaren – the new car proved to be slow and unreliable.
