Last summer, Nelson Piquet, a former Formula 1 driver, was under investigation in Brazil over his public statements against Lewis Hamilton, which contained elements of racism and homophobia. We wrote about this story, it started with the allegations against Piqué by four Brazilian human rights organizations, as well as by three members of this country’s parliament.
Eight months later it was announced that the Brazilian prosecutor’s office agreed to these allegations, and it is likely that the three-time world champion will now have to officially apologize and pay a large fine for the moral damage caused. which, converted into euros, is approaching two million.
As the Brazilian newspaper O Globo writes, the fact that Piqué is considered a public figure influenced the size of the fine, qualifying it as an aggravating circumstance. The hearing will take place in the coming weeks, at which the verdict in the case of the former racer will be announced.
