Sergio Perez, who won the last race on Thursday, said the victory was made possible because the team happened to “have to work with two cars”, and this “Red Bull only had one”.
On Friday, team boss Christian Horner disagreed with his rider’s comments…
Christian Horner: “I hear him say that for the first time. Since we came into the sport in 2005, we have always run two cars and always wanted two of the best drivers to drive them.
In 21 Sergio came to us after the season with Covid-19 and before the regulation change – he had issues with that car, but last year he was more confident and won two of our 17 wins. He has started the season well this year and it is good to see Perez doing great.
Our team has always strived to give both riders the best opportunities and the best equipment that we are capable of. Then everything depends on their results on the track. Our riders know the rules of conduct and understand that the team’s interests come first.
Unfortunately, this year we don’t have the same development opportunities as other teams due to lack of time in the wind tunnel, so it’s important to get as many points as possible in the first half of the season, because the opponent will definitely improve later on.”
