Red Bull Racing drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez spoke about the characteristics of the urban circuit in Monaco, which will host the sixth round of the Formula 1 season this weekend.
Max Verstappen: “I’m excited to be behind the wheel again this week. The decision not to participate in Imola was the right one, although I know it wasn’t easy. Some things are more important than racing, and this was one such case.
When we talk about Monaco, qualifying is very important at this track, so we have to give our best in the Saturday session. The track is very narrow – narrower than other urban ones. Perfect qualifying round is incredibly difficult, but very exciting at the same time. The outcome of the race is highly dependent on strategy, as overtaking is almost impossible.
I live in Monaco so it’s nice to be home every night of the race weekend.”
Sergio Perez: “My thoughts are with everyone affected by the floods in Italy. Sometimes the races are not important because the priority is everyone’s safety.
We had a free weekend, which allowed me to rest really well for race week in Monaco. Every driver dreams of winning this race, and I did it last season. This result only reinforced my desire to rise to the top step of the podium again.
The weather can be challenging, which means you need to make the most of every minute you drive. It’s important to get the settings right and qualify well to have a chance on Sunday. I look forward to returning to this circuit, because Monaco is interesting to fly!”
