In AlphaTauri they only earned points once in Monaco – in 2021 Pierre Gasly finished sixth – their predecessors from Toro Rosso performed much more successfully…
Nick deVries: “The race in Monaco is one of the highlights of the season and for me it’s almost a home stage – I live in Monaco. Looking forward to starting the weekend.
I have already raced and won in Monaco – I took the first victory in Formula 2 in the sprint, and in 2019 – the main race, starting from pole. This time I’m taking part in the Grand Prix, which is really cool.
Driving through Monaco in everyday life, I remember these streets becoming a racetrack for a week, especially the section from Turn 5 to Mirabeau Haute, and before entering the tunnel, I turn left to get to my apartment.
I can sleep at home this weekend. Last year I thought I could feel the atmosphere better if I stayed in a team hotel, but that didn’t work out.”
Yuki Tsunoda: “In Faenza and the surrounding area, the situation was very difficult, I am impressed how everyone in the community came together to help the victims of the floods and to clean up the city. But now I am fully focused on the race.
I first competed in Monaco in 2021 when I made my Formula 1 debut and last year I qualified 11th. These four days here really has a special atmosphere.
Monaco has a unique circuit, a pleasure to drive, especially in qualifying. It’s all about confidence – how close you can attack to the barriers, how fast you can develop in the corners – Saturday always proves to be interesting. This is the most important day of the weekend as it is very difficult to overtake in the race. Over the course of the weekend I try to find a setting that is more suitable for qualifying, and not for a long series of circles.
This track should be treated with great respect, gradually adding speed and trying to do as many laps as possible. Usually the condition of the asphalt improves quickly, with each session the track gets faster.
Experience is especially important in Monaco, but for me this is my third race in the Principality and I am now much better prepared than the first time.”
