Max Verstappen showed the best time in the third practice in Montreal, while Sergio Perez, his partner, finished the session on the 17th line of the protocol. Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner commented on the results on Sky Sports.
Christian Horner: “The conditions were difficult, visibility during the session is not important as these intermediate tires create a very dense veil of spray. Nevertheless, we have collected a large amount of information, especially since the same weather will accompany qualifying.
The session was a success for Max, he quickly got into the right rhythm and was able to avoid problems. Thanks to his aggressive driving style, he knows how to warm up the tires quickly. But Sergio got out of rhythm, but I’m not really worried, in qualifying he will find him again. During practice he failed to get the rubber running properly, but we will provide him and his engineers with all the necessary information so that they are well prepared for qualifying.
During the session, in general, all riders complained about the front brakes locking up, but this is due to the front tires having difficulty warming up. It will probably be difficult during qualifying to decide when to switch from heavy rain tires to intermediate rubber.
Since the weather may change by Sunday, we have to compromise on the settings. Temperatures will probably be different tomorrow, so you have to find a middle ground so that the riders feel confident behind the wheel, but don’t want to adjust the wings too much angle of attack, because then the race starts to get difficult due to insufficient maximum speed.
I think our strongest opponents this weekend will be the Ferrari drivers, they seem to have some pretty fast cars. Aston Martin are about on their level, but Mercedes are a bit behind so far – they seem to be having trouble warming up the rubber.”
