The second leg of the Russian Endurance Series (REC) will be held on the Moscow Raceway circuit near Moscow – on July 22 the REC participants of the 2023 season will start again.
This year, the first two stages of the four-hour marathon will be run in the status of a two-stage Moscow Championship. The auto portal Auto Mail.Ru became the title partner of the second stage. Entrance for spectators from 3 p.m. Race starts at 6:00 PM, finish at 10:00 PM.
Automarathons have a long history and traditions. In fact, with
marathons began the history of motorsport – the very first races in the late 19th century were held over long distances between cities. And the first multi-hour race on the ring track was organized in England in 1907. It wasn’t until 16 years later that the French followed the British example by organizing a daily marathon at Le Mans.
But endurance races don’t have to be all day long. Marathons include all races with a minimum duration of three hours. These classic matches can last 4, 6, 8, 12 and of course 24 hours.
The Russian REC series is held in the form of four-hour marathons. The very first race was held in the fall of 2015 at Moscow Raceway. In 2022, the REC series reached a new level – the championship was held in four stages and attracted the participation of such eminent riders as Roman Rusinov, Vitaly Petrov, Daniil Kvyat, Mikhail Aleshin.
In the 2023 season, the REC calendar already consists of five stages of 4 hours each. About 25 crews are expected to participate in the second leg of the season on different vehicles: from Mercedes AMG, Lamborghini Gallardo, BMW M-series, KTM X-BOW, Porsche, Toyota Supra to Short Cut, Mitjet and less powerful compared to the GT-class motorsport touring cars.
Expected by many viewers, the No. 7 crew Marussia GT, which was damaged during filming for the first leg of the competition in
May, has been fully restored and will compete in the race. The battle will be for the lead in the general classification as well as in the classes.
More than 30 crews and more than 75 pilots have already signed up to participate in the REC, including world long-distance racing champion Roman Rusinov, as well as other Russian masters participating in international competitions of this kind, including Mikhail Loboda, Denis Remenyako, Sergei Stolyarov.
Anastasia Bendikova, director of the ASPAS sports club, general organizer of the series: “The second phase of the series is difficult for both participants and organizers, because after that, almost two weeks later, the REC stage will be held at the Igora Drive autodrome, as part of a major festival of music and drive garage fest. Both stages will be intense. Russian sports organizers are trying to occupy a niche in it
left the departure of the Formula 1 stage from Russia This is an ambitious idea, the implementation of which requires a lot of effort. We try to improve our stages in consultation with drivers and spectators.”
This year, the competition organizing committee has developed the concept of each stage of the series as a holiday for the whole family. This is a modern approach to the organization of sporting events. On July 22, the race will again take place in the evening, the finish will take place at night.
The entertainment program is being expanded: in addition to the traditional race taxi, guided tours of the team boxes and the race track, motorcycle slalom for children and helicopter flights, four new zones appear on the site next to the paddock.
These are a skate zone, drift trikes, the Auto Mail.Ru theme zone (UK project) and an exciting playground created by the Rosgosstrakh Zhizn insurance company.
The REC regulations allow switching pilots in crews, changing tires and refueling. REC races have been held in the current format since 2015, with winners determined both in the overall standings and individual classes – CN, CN Pro, GT, GT light, GT Am and GT Pro.
