The Ferrari team arrived in Qatar just twenty points behind Mercedes in the constructors’ championship. Charles Leclerc expressed confidence at the Losail circuit on Thursday that the Scuderia will be able to close such a gap by the end of the season and stay ahead of Mercedes in the battle for second place.
Charles Leclerc: “It is a matter of time before Max guarantees himself a third title. He is having an incredible season, fast in all conditions and on all tracks. Of course Red Bull has the best car, but Max also worked extremely hard to achieve this result. He deserves the title because he is the best driver of the moment.
Our car is fast, but I want more. The McLaren drivers were very fast at the last round in Japan – they have a good car and they are gradually closing the gap from the Silverstone round. We have managed to achieve more stability and the team’s task is to end the season in second place in the Constructors’ Championship. I think this is a completely achievable goal, given the results of the last few races.
Temperatures are incredibly high in Qatar at the moment – we could be in for the hottest race in history. This is a difficult stage for us riders, but we recently rode in Singapore so we are ready for such conditions.”
