The Williams drivers finished 11th and 12th in the American Grand Prix and, according to Alex Albon, a lot of effort was put into it, but the team was not rewarded for it.
Alex Albon (11th): “Actually the race upset me a bit. We ran out of new sets of Medium tires because yesterday we decided to take a chance and use them in the sprint. We hoped that we would be able to cover the race distance mainly on hard tires as we had two of these new sets.
However, the Hard tires performed terribly today and we had to use the Medium tires that were broken in. This obviously had a major influence on the way we conducted the Grand Prix. As a result, we finished one step away from the top ten in both races of the weekend. Overall we put in a lot of effort but were not rewarded for it.
On the other hand, our car usually doesn’t like exposure to high winds and hot weather, but in Austin we weren’t that slow. The teams we compete with continue to upgrade their cars and, to be honest, this allows them to progress. But at the same time it is important that we can still compete with them.”
Logan Sargent (12th): “I think the race went well. Although the start didn’t go well: I made a mistake in Turn 1, hit a high curb and lost several positions. Still, I showed good pace – we managed to turn the situation around after yesterday’s difficulties.
The team found the right direction when working with the car – we effectively used the resources at our disposal and changed the parameters of a number of systems using switches on the steering wheel. But I also behaved better because I changed my flying style. Moreover, we have worked correctly with the rubber. All together has enabled us to make significant positive changes.
In terms of pace, this was definitely my best race, although I still make mistakes, including during the pit stops, and this makes the team’s job difficult. I just need to learn to act more correctly and not make miscalculations in small things, and this will allow me to make further progress.”
