Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing are absolutely dominating the championship this year, but that is only for now and to remain at such a high level in the future, extra efforts must be made. However, concerns arose that the team would not be able to implement plans to modernize the infrastructure in time, or at least would have to adjust them.
Sam Collins, technical expert on the championship’s official website, writes on his social media pages: “The situation surrounding the new Red Bull wind tunnel in Milton Keynes is not developing according to plan. The team has withdrawn the design application, ruling out the chance that construction of the new wind tunnel can start any time soon.
This also means that it will not be possible to use it to develop the 2025 car. If we think realistically, its more or less normal operation may begin later, when the team starts creating a 2026 car with a Ford power plant. In the meantime, Red Bull continues to work in the wind tunnel built 75 years ago, located in Twinwood,
The reason why the application has been withdrawn has not yet been given, but the team may have to find another location to build the wind tunnel or it may have to significantly change its plans.”
This is likely to be quite alarming news for Red Bull Racing, as its rivals are successfully developing their technological capabilities: McLaren’s new wind tunnel has already been commissioned and construction of a similar facility is well underway at the new Aston Martin base in Silverstone.
