In the American Grand Prix, George Russell finished 7th, but then dropped to 5th when his teammate Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc were disqualified. After the finish, George experienced complex emotions and did not hide them.
“To be honest, my race was in two halves,” he said on the F1 Nation podcast. – I didn’t start well, then I showed a good pace on the Medium tires, but the hard tires worked terribly. Moreover, we had not fueled the car enough, so we had to drive a little slower to save fuel.
Towards the end we switched back to medium tires and went very fast again. Of course, it’s a shame that everything turned out like this, because it seemed to us that the car allowed us to fight for victory this weekend. We have to admit that we missed this opportunity again.
In general, the year is not going well, and mainly because of me, although I don’t know why this is happening. There is no feeling that the car lacks speed, because it has certainly become more efficient compared to last year.
But at the same time, in almost all races in 2022 everything went as we wanted, so we need to figure out why the picture has changed now, draw conclusions and move on.
The US Grand Prix is always quite interesting, although the Texas circuit is one of the roughest of the season. For example, I feel a bit uncomfortable because the car on the highway vibrates so much that I feel uncomfortable and get a headache. Although of course these racing cars are primarily made for speed, and not for the comfort of the driver.
But I’m already looking forward to the podium in Mexico City; last year we performed quite successfully at this circuit. In general, the whole team is in a good mood now, because everyone hopes that we will become stronger next year.”
