On Friday in Mexico City, Jack Duane, a 20-year-old Australian F2 driver, had his first Formula 1 practice in an Alpine car and the team was pleased with his performance.
“Jack did an excellent job, did what was expected of him and made no mistakes,” concluded Bruno Famen, vice president of Alpine Motorsport. “At the end of the session he showed stable results over a long series of laps and we got the information we wanted from him.
We were very happy with this. Since this was just the first training session, I believe he was instructed that we were not working on speed at all and that the task was set differently. Overall, we are satisfied with his work.”
But overall Alpine is not just satisfied with its backup pilot. Famen noted Pierre Gasly’s work in the second half of the season.
“I think we’re getting better at unlocking the car’s potential,” he continued. – Pierre Gasly continues his good scoring streak. Unfortunately, Esteban Ocon had no luck during the races; in Austin he had problems again, although he started very well. But I am happy that we are gradually making improvements on the circuits, even though we still have a lot of work to do.
Pierre is in his first season with our team and has had to learn a lot to understand how it works. It took some time to achieve the right sensations, to find the right approach for interacting with the team, but the team also benefits from the collaboration with Pierre. We are doing better in the second half of the season, especially he is showing good results. But I have no doubt that Esteban will earn points by the end of the season.”
Famen also commented on the recent appointment of Eric Maignan as technical director of the Alpine motorcycle division: “We are pleased to welcome Eric to Viry, and I think he will be able to bring a lot to the team as he is a very experienced specialist . I believe he will drive our entire team.
He joins us at the right time and will help our guys be better prepared for 2026 and the transition to the next generation of powertrains. I’m sure he’ll do a great job. He has already started work and will be able to get started soon.”
