The head of Alpine F1, Otmar Szafnauer, is confident that the team will be in the top three in a few years…
Otmar Szafnauer: “We have not yet decided on the co-pilot for next year. I wasn’t in the team when they signed a contract with Fernando Alonso, but I can see he has the necessary environment here, the atmosphere and the machine that suits him.
On the other hand, Oscar Piastri has great potential. This year he works with us, attends all technical briefings and, most importantly, helps us refine the car. I have no doubt that he is ready for Formula 1.
Our team is developing and making progress. In two years I see Alpine in the top three, by then we should be fighting for race wins.
The FIA’s battle against sway? We are working with the FIA in this direction, although our car does not have such a problem. I think the FIA measures should only apply to those who have build-up. Imagine that on a high curb some cars have the wishbones breaking, but not others. Obviously, only those who break them need to strengthen the levers. The same goes for the construction.”
