The Fed reports.
According to the publication, an informant told the FIA that Ben Sulayem allegedly interfered with the race results, asking for the penalty imposed on Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso to be overturned. It is alleged that Ben Sulayem called the FIA vice president for sports for the Middle East and North Africa region, who was present at the race, and made it clear to him that the sanction imposed on Alonso should be canceled.
In this race, Alonso finished third, after which it became known that 10 seconds were added to his result and he became fourth. The two-time world champion was punished for the fact that, while serving a five-second penalty in the pits, a mechanic hit the car with a jack. However, Alonso’s team later managed to prove that such a touch cannot be considered “work with the machine.” As a result, Alonso returned to third place.
The ethics committee is expected to take four to six weeks to make public its report on Ben Sulayem’s case.
