Lewis Hamilton will continue his career at Ferrari in 2025. Former Haas team boss Guenther Steiner believes the seven-time world champion has made the right decision.
Gunther Steiner: “Lewis seems to be able to make the right decisions. He already made the right decision once when he left McLaren for Mercedes, and perhaps the decision to move to Ferrari will be the right one too.
I think it was more important for Lewis to get a new challenge. He has been playing for the team for 11 years, winning six titles, but in my opinion he wanted a new challenge in the final stages of his career. It is clear that his final challenge is Ferrari and he has the opportunity to take it on.
Nothing is impossible. In 2026, the rules for the engine and chassis will change, meaning the cars will have to be built from scratch. And if luck is on Lewis’s side and Ferrari builds a good car, an eighth title is very possible.”
Steiner responded to the possibility of Max Verstappen switching from Red Bull Racing to Mercedes: “All Formula 1 teams are interested in Max Verstappen, so the question is where he wants to go. It could be Mercedes as they have a vacancy due to Lewis’ move to Ferrari. Aston Martin is also a good option, but if Max decides to go somewhere, I think it will be Mercedes.
As far as I understand it, everyone at Red Bull has calmed down a bit and come together, so it won’t be easy for Max to terminate the contract. Max loves the Red Bull car, he loves the team, so if nothing affects him personally, I don’t think he wants to leave. “He wins with Red Bull. The team gave him the opportunity to make his Formula 1 debut, so if they have a good personal relationship he will stay.”
