We talked about the plans of the Turkish government, which owns the Istanbul race track, to launch a tender, the winner of which will gain control of the track. One of the conditions that the winner must meet is to hold a Formula 1 Grand Prix from 2026.
According to Turkish publication Haberturk, the tender has already been completed and the winner has been determined. It concerned Pirelli Otomobil Lastikleri AS, a Turkish subsidiary of the official tire supplier for Formula 1.
The company received a 30-year lease for the race track, the lease cost was $118 million. Liberty Media officials are expected to fly to Istanbul soon to make some announcements.
“In 2026, several circuits will be excluded from the Formula 1 calendar, so that one of the rounds can be held again in Turkey,” says an optimistic Lale Kander, head of Pirelli Otomobil Lastikleri.
