Logan Sargent: I made a stupid mistake

Logan Sargent managed only 10 laps in the first practice at Suzuka, after which he crashed the car in Turn 7. The Williams team started to repair it, as the FW46’s front suspension and gearbox were seriously damaged, and the American admitted his guilt for what had happened. He should be back on track tomorrow during training.

His teammate Alex Albon avoided similar problems, but the unfavorable weather in the second session saw him barely work on track.

Logan Sargent (20th in the first session): “To be honest, I made a stupid mistake by positioning the car wrong on the track. This obviously had to be avoided, especially during the first training. I was fortunate that this mistake was not of the same nature as my mistake last year when I simply overdid it.

However, the car is damaged and the team has to repair it, but it is not as bad as it could have been. But neither this accident nor the missed Australian Grand Prix affected my self-confidence, and I arrived in Japan rested and full of strength.

Overall, no trust issues, although of course I’m angry with myself for today’s accident. Now we must put the past behind us and continue preparing for tomorrow’s qualifications.”

Alex Albon (12th in the first session): “It is difficult to say what speed we are capable of, because we have not completed enough laps so far. In the second practice we wanted to work more on the track, because after the first session I was not so comfortable behind the wheel.

We tried to make some changes to the settings to achieve improvements, but due to not completing enough laps we were unable to achieve our goals. Hopefully we can continue to work on the settings in practice tomorrow and try to understand the car better before qualifying.”
