McLaren driver Lando Norris showed for the first time according to the qualifying results for the sprint race of the Chinese Grand Prix. In his best attempt, the 24-year-old Brit completed the lap in 1 minute 57.940 seconds.
The final segment of the qualifying session took place in the rain. Initially, the judges removed Norris’ result from the protocol due to exceeding track limits, but later reconsidered their decision. Took second place Lewis Hamilton (“Mercedes”), top 3 closed Fernando Alonso (“Aston Martin”)
As qualifying began, the track grass caught fire for the second time during the race weekend. The first incident occurred during the morning free practice session at turn seven, and the second at the end of the first qualifying segment at turn five. For this reason, the organizers postponed the start of the next segment.
China is hosting a Formula 1 event for the first time since 2019. The weekend continues on Saturday with a sprint race, which starts at 6:00 a.m. Moscow time.
