Visa RB is not satisfied with the results of qualifying, as only Daniel Ricciardo could qualify for the second session and Yuki Tsunoda only showed a 19th result. However, the Australian believes that not everything is so bad.
Daniel Ricciardo (14th): “This is one of those days where a 14th time is not a result to be happy with, but personally I think the day went well, because we were in the top ten during training. However, I knew that some riders were only using one set of tires.
We understood that it wouldn’t be easy to reach the final qualifying, but the impressions while working on the track were definitely better, so there are some reasons for optimism.
The results are very tight, but the day still went well. If we talk about tomorrow, but of course in the sprint there is an opportunity to compete for higher positions. Overtaking is possible on the Shanghai highway; there are good options for this. Overall we will have some opportunities in both races this weekend and I intend to take advantage of them.”
Yuki Tsunoda (19th): “Since the training I have had problems with balance and grip. Before qualifying for the sprint we tried to adjust the settings but I wasn’t able to get a good lap. I can’t say exactly why this happened, but it’s clear it was a difficult day.
It’s not the weather or the condition of the track; I just couldn’t show a better result. Since the beginning of the season I have not had such serious problems, but there are still several sessions ahead and we will continue to collect information. Tomorrow’s qualifying is very important and I hope we can find a solution by then so we’ll see how it goes.”
Alan Permain (Race Director): “It’s clear that the day is far from the best, and of course, working with this car in qualifying, we are not used to such results. But it became clear right from training that we had some speed problems.
Tomorrow we have a sprint, after which we have the opportunity to adjust the settings of both cars. But already tonight, with a view to tomorrow’s qualifying, we will have to work well with the engineers of the racing team, but also with the specialists working at the bases in Italy and Great Britain.”
