Both Visa RB drivers earned points during Saturday’s sprint in Miami, helping the team secure 6th place in the Constructors’ Championship. But most importantly, Daniel Ricciardo drove a great race and finished fourth, confirming his ability to overcome the losing streak.
Daniel Ricciardo (4th): “Every high achievement is always a desired achievement, and I am filled with powerful joyful emotions. Obviously this is a continuation of the work we started yesterday during qualifying. It’s great that we performed well on Friday, but it’s even better that we rode such a nice sprint afterwards. The mood is good, also because we have silenced the critics.
But I had to sweat, I didn’t have time to catch my breath the whole race, I tried to do everything in my power to stop Carlos Sainz’s attack. At the same time, I thought that if the tires failed, nothing could be done, but with each lap, as I managed to maintain fourth position, my confidence grew. By the way, the tires still held up!
There are two factors that contributed to the success: before the stage in China we changed the chassis and I immediately felt confident. It cannot be said that we were completely slow before, but something was still missing. Compared to Yuki, I couldn’t take turns as well as he did from the very beginning of the season. And I really think it was the chassis.
Secondly, a modernized underbody of the car was installed for the Miami stage, allowing the car to handle high-speed corners well. Now I have to calm down a bit and come to my senses, but there are still qualifying and tomorrow’s race ahead, so I’m already excited. In literally half an hour we will start preparing for the qualifications, and we will try to continue to have reasons to be in a good mood.
Yuki Tsunoda (8th): “The race left a very mixed impression, although I earned one point. Lewis Hamilton overtook me on the last lap, so I feel like a loser, but I still got 8th place. Although it seems to me that I could have defended much better in the last round, so I am not completely satisfied with myself.
However, I am happy for Daniel, he fully deserved this result because he had a great qualifying yesterday, but at least I also did something for the team.”
