Alonso: We changed the settings and they didn’t work

Aston Martin’s best result in qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix was eleventh place by Lance Stroll. The Canadian driver said he could not achieve more because he had no confidence in the car.

His teammate Fernando Alonso qualified fifteenth. The Spaniard explained that the team changed the car’s settings after the sprint, which led to a loss of speed.

Lance walk (11th): “Disappointing day. The sprint ended for me on the first lap after contact with other cars. An unfortunate incident, but there was little I could do about it.

In qualifying the car simply did not have the necessary pace. Too bad I was just a little short of reaching the final. I couldn’t improve in the second session because I didn’t have confidence in the car.

I will try to gain more speed in the race and hope that we can fight for points in Miami.”

Fernando Alonso (15th): “Disappointing day for us. Firstly, I was involved in an incident in the first corner at the start of the sprint. Secondly, there was a difficult qualification. In the first and second parts I had problems with speed and in both sessions I achieved the fifteenth fastest time.

It seems I just didn’t have the pace – this time we were outside the group that was struggling in the top ten. After the sprint we changed the settings – apparently it didn’t work.

I think it will be a difficult race, but we will analyze Saturday’s pace and try to get some points.”
