Max Verstappen has repeatedly said he would like to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but is now being held back by the BoP weight handicap introduced last year, which he considers unfair.
Max Verstappen: “Le Mans is an incredible race, I like the idea of sharing a car with other drivers and having to work with teammates to find the right compromise. I follow what’s happening in endurance racing, it’s interesting to me.
I think it’s too early for me to join now, they need to figure out the BoP rules first. I can weigh 80 kg, including my equipment, but there are riders who weigh 55 or 60 – that’s a few tenths per lap and I simply don’t have a chance.
So they have to figure everything out. There should be an average or minimum weight, one for everyone. But in the future I would like to participate in this race, an incredible event.”
