During the second training session in Canada, the power source failed in Max Verstappen’s car, he had to return to the pits and hand the car over to the mechanics, and the engine was sent to Japan.
The interruption was caused by a suspected problem with the recovery system, Max immediately asked the team what consequences this would have for that weekend or for the rest of the year.
In Barcelona, Verstappen’s car was equipped with the fourth of the four permitted engines, but there are rumors that the power unit that failed in Montreal could have suffered serious internal damage and will no longer be used.
Team boss Christian Horner admits that Verstappen will not be able to avoid a penalty for a fifth engine change: “We will see how the engines behave in the coming races, but I think that at some point we will inevitably make a fifth change.”
