In Austria, McLaren uses a temporary camper

McLaren’s guest camper was damaged by fire in Spain. The fire occurred due to problems with the power supply system, and although damage to the health of the team’s employees was avoided, the damage resulting from the emergency was significant.

Even then, McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown said that in the best-case scenario, the camper van, which the team calls the Team Hub, would be restored by the British leg of the season. The repairs are being carried out by German company Schuler, which originally designed and built the structure, but the process could take a long time.

This company, which has a long-term partnership with McLaren, was able to help the team by temporarily renting out another camper. Of course, it is not as spacious as the impressive Team Hub, and designed for fewer guests, but at least it allows you to somehow overcome unexpected difficulties.

It was able to house the team’s engineers, the kitchen works and provides food for the employees, but Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, as well as Andrea Stella, had to stay in another camper of the team, called the Performance Center, and it is usually taken up entirely by technical specialists.

“The help and support that all other teams, Formula 1 and the FIA have given us, as well as their solidarity and sympathy, have been completely sincere and have touched us,” said the British team boss. “Speaking to one of the McLaren employees, we noticed this sense of community in the paddock. Sometimes we just forget because we are all competing with each other.”
