F3: Luke Browning won Sunday’s race from pole position

Luke Browning finished Sunday’s Formula 3 race in Spielberg with a victory. Gabriele Mini and Dino Beganovic climbed onto the podium with him.

The championship contenders were greeted with sunny weather on Sunday morning. Pole holder Luke Browning maintained his lead at the start. Tim Tramnitz had a bad start and dropped from third to seventh place. Gabriele Mini had a good start and climbed to second place in turn four. However, during the lap Mini made a mistake and let Arvid Lindblad and Dino Beganovich pass.

On the second lap of twenty-six, Beganovic attacked Lindblad in turn three and moved up to second place. At that point, Browning tried to open a gap with the peloton and set the best time. A lap later, Pyotr Vishnitsky set the best time, and no one could beat him until the finish.

On lap six, Sebastian Montoya and Joshua Dufek returned to the pits and exited the race. Montoya’s car was damaged after contact with Tramnitz, while Dufek was injured during contact with Callum Voisin’s car. Later, both Tramnitz and Voisin received a 10-second time penalty.

On the eighth lap, Noel Leon, who started thirteenth, moved up to fourth place. Arvid Lindblad dropped to seventh after a battle with Alex Dunne in turn three.

On the eleventh lap, Mari Boya attacked Nikita Bedrina in the third corner. There was contact between them and Bedrin’s car was damaged. On the track, the virtual safety car mode was activated, allowing the marshals to push Nikita’s car off the track. Marie Boya received a 10-second time penalty.

On lap 13 Oliver Goethe attacked Leon. Noel suffered a rear puncture and pitted for new tyres, ruining his chances of scoring points.

By lap 16, Luke Browning had a large group of riders behind him and Dino Beganovic tried to attack the race leader, but Luke stayed ahead. Behind, Sami Megetunif and Keane Shields were given 5-second penalties for the infringement. Martinius Stenshorn was given a similar penalty.

On the twenty-second lap, Christian Mansell attacked Oliver Goethe at turn three and moved up to fourth place.

On lap twenty-four, Mini attacked Beganovich at turn three, but the manoeuvre did not work. Mansell took advantage of this and overtook Mini at turn four. Gabriel, however, counter-attacked and regained third place at turn six.

On the next lap, Mini launched another attack on Beganovic – this time it was successful, and at the sixth turn Gabriel took second place.

On the final lap at turn 3 Beganovic moved back into second place, but Mini counter-attacked at the next corner and took the lead again. In the final corners Beganovic held off third place from Mansell’s attacks.

This battle played into the hands of Luke Browning, who calmly took the race to his second victory of the season. The result allowed him to take the lead in the individual standings, ahead of Leonardo Fornaroli, who finished ninth.

The seventh round of the Formula 3 season will take place at Silverstone next week.
