Both Alpine drivers at Silverstone dropped out of the race in the first part of qualifying…
Esteban Ocon (18th): “Difficult qualifying with a drying track and red flags. Unfortunately we couldn’t take advantage of these conditions. We didn’t make the right decisions at the right time, we didn’t attack when the track was in better condition. There was some confusion at the end, I thought there was one more lap and I was told to abort the attempt.
Bad day, we need to investigate why we couldn’t do better. Given the starting position, we have a difficult race tomorrow. We will do everything we can to win back, the changeable weather can help us with that.”
Pierre Gasly (20th): I knew beforehand that I would start twentieth because of a penalty, we decided to change the power unit here, and it’s good that we’re done with it.
For me the session was not very interesting, I only did one lap on Soft. We did not want to take any risk. For me the weekend starts tomorrow, I will attack where I can and hopefully I can get back into the top ten.
The conditions here are very difficult, we saw how easy it was to fly off the track. At the same time, these conditions can make tomorrow’s race very interesting, which will help us to come back.”
