Sergio Perez’s current contract with Red Bull Racing runs until the end of 2026, but the Mexican driver’s poor performances in recent races have left many experts doubting whether he will retain his place in the championship-winning team.
Racingnews365 was able to find out that Perez’s contract contains two conditions under which Red Bull Racing has the right to fire the driver.
According to the first condition, Sergio cannot be more than 100 points behind Max Verstappen. Currently, Perez is 137 points behind his teammate.
The second condition is also related to the results: in the individual competition, Perez cannot be more than five positions behind Verstappen. After the British Grand Prix, Perez is in sixth place with Verstappen in the lead, but could lose this, as he is seven and eight points ahead of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton respectively.
An important clarification is that both conditions must be met before the summer break, so Sergio only has two races left to rectify the situation and secure his place in the team.
