Lewis Hamilton has been praised for his calm but determined approach to making a Hollywood blockbuster based on Formula 1 racing.
The film, simply titled ‘F1’, starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris who drive for the fictional APXGP team, is due for release on June 25 next year.
The seven-time champion co-produced the film with Top Gun’s Jerry Bruckheimer.
British actor Idris, who plays young racer Joshua Pearce, says Hamilton’s input was crucial in creating an atmosphere of authenticity that resonates with fans.
Damson Idris: “This is a film that no one has ever seen before. It’s cool, we’re driving these incredible machines ourselves.
There is no one better to teach you about Formula 1 racing than Lewis Hamilton. He may come and say that this is not true, that this scene will not be in the film. In our art form, this kind of approach is very rare. Because this is a fictional story, there is nothing better than working with someone who lives and breathes Formula 1. We are in good hands.
Lewis is an inspiration to all of us. I don’t think he gets enough credit. As well as being a fantastic athlete, he’s a force for good in the sport. Hamilton is a true innovator. No matter what kind of art you do, you can always take Lewis’ example and apply it to your life.”
