This year Oliver Berman not only made his debut in Formula 1, replacing Carlos Sainz in Saudi Arabia, which he handled with success, not only signed a contract with Haas, but also took part in the Goodwood Festival of Speed for the first time.
His task this weekend is to drive the already historic Ferrari SF71H, the same car that Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen drove in the 2017 World Championship. It seems like this is not the most difficult task for a professional racer, even though he is only 19 years old, but even here it is not that easy…
“This is a very special experience, because the SF71H is one of the most beautiful cars in Ferrari’s history, and also quite successful,” Oliver said after his first race on Saturday. – I am very happy with what is happening here at the Festival of Speed and I am very happy to be taking part.
But I still have to work on myself, because during the race I had to do “donuts” at a certain place, but since I didn’t know the route yet, I skipped this place! But I promise that the audience will see “donuts” next time too.
In general I like it here, but I have to run and lower my head to be less visible to the fans, otherwise they start to recognize me! (laughs) Although of course I am happy that so many people support me.
During the weekend at Silverstone my contract with the Haas team for 2025 was confirmed and at Goodwood I am already seen as a British Formula 1 driver. And it is very nice to feel this support.
This year has been very eventful, starting with the fact that in Jeddah, at Ferrari’s decision, I got behind the wheel of Carlos Sainz’s car. This has had a huge impact on the whole further development of events, and I have already done several training sessions with the Haas team, and now I am here at Goodwood.
I really enjoy driving the Ferrari SF71H and in the next race I will try to do the donuts and put on a good show for the crowd.”
It is true that Berman’s plans to smoke tyres have been hampered by the relatively heavy rain that recently started at Goodwood, but in extreme cases he still has a day to go, especially as the weather forecast for Sunday is relatively favourable.
