All tickets for the Hungarian Grand Prix were sold out in January, so the Hungaroring is expected to be packed and the winners of Sunday’s race will once again receive handmade cups made by the masters of the famous porcelain factory in the city of Herend.
Zsolt Gyulai, Executive Director of the Hungarian Circuit and President of Hungaroring Sport Zrt, spoke about this and much more at today’s press conference. The main topic, however, was the successful completion of the first phase of the reconstruction of the Hungaroring.
“The installation of utility networks has been fully completed, as well as the work on the main entrance and the adjacent building, so now we have a decent reception center,” he told reporters. – However, various types of internal work will continue until November 30. In addition, the area behind the Super Gold grandstand in the start-finish straight area has been significantly expanded, and concerts will be held at this location as part of the cultural program at the Grand Prix.
The paddock has been extended by 19 metres and although this part of the work has also been completed, we are now only using one section of this area. The surface in the departure areas of turns 4 and 12 has been replaced and the main pit complex building, built in 1986, will be demolished after the race.
The new building will be 9 meters wider and will offer space for larger garages. This coming weekend will be the last we spend in the old building.”
Gyulai noted that this year during the Grand Prix the curbs on the roof edge of the last part of the circle will be painted in the colours of the Brazilian flag in memory of Ayrton Senna – this was the case at other circuits.
“The next phase of the renovation will also see the demolition of the main stand, although the two tunnels leading from the paddock to the Super Gold stand are already largely complete,” he continued. “As always, a varied entertainment programme will be offered to the public in the area behind the main stand throughout the weekend.”
When asked to share his predictions for the upcoming race, the Hunagroring director chose not to make any predictions, but said that he would personally prefer to see Lando Norris take the top step of the podium.
The press conference also saw the presentation of the trophies that the winner and prize winners will receive after the Grand Prix. These are elegant cups, handmade by Herend Porcelain Manufactory, decorated with matte gold, each worth tens of thousands of euros. The cups and prize for the winning team are made in a neoclassical style, including a stylized track layout as one of the design elements.
