When Lando Norris posted the best time after Friday’s practice results at the Hungarian circuit, his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri was outside the top ten, and the team has yet to find out why this happened.
Lando Norris (1st): “Overall Friday went well. We made noticeable progress with the car between sessions, which is nice, and the driving experience was quite good.
The grip is still not good enough, so there could be problems in certain parts of the track, but in the evening we will analyse everything to prepare as best as possible for qualifying, especially because the results are very tight this weekend.”
Oscar Piastri (13th): “The day left mixed impressions. In the first training everything went well, but in the second training the problems started, so it is important to find out what caused this.
“But my partner’s car can reach a good pace, and this is a positive moment for the whole team. If we can figure out what happened in the second session, we can qualify with confidence and move up the positions.”
Andrea StellaTeam Manager: “Working in training at the Hungaroring was useful for the team. The first session took place in extreme heat, but in the second it got a bit cooler. During the day we carried out different types of checks, which gave us insight into how to set up the car.
We were also able to analyse the behaviour of different rubber compounds at high temperatures and collect important information that allows us to choose the right tyres for the race.
In general we see that the machine is working well. Lando immediately found a good rhythm, but with Oscar there were still some things that needed to be sorted out tonight.
We will try to fight for high starting positions, despite the fact that the results are very close. We are not only talking about our usual rivals, but also about some teams from the middle peloton that have managed to make noticeable progress.
Either way, it looks like fans are in for a very interesting weekend.”
