Nikita Bedrin’s victory ended Saturday’s Formula 3 sprint at the Hungaroring. For the Belgorod native, who competes under an Italian racing license, this victory was the first of his career in the youth series.
Together with Nikita, Tasanapol Intrafuvasak and Dino Beganovich climbed to the podium.
Saturday morning the youth championship participants were greeted with cloudy but dry weather. After a few penalties handed out by the stewards after qualifying for blocking, Dino Beganovic moved up to the first place at the start of the sprint. Nikita Bedrin shared the front row with him.
Tasanapol Intrafuvasak, originally scheduled to start from pole position, took third place on the grid, sharing the second row with Callum Voisin. Championship leader Gabriele Mini started thirteenth.
After the warm-up lap, the start was not given because Joseph Loak took the wrong position at the start. He was later penalized for this with a Stop&Go of 10 seconds. The pilots went on a second warm-up lap and the race distance was reduced to eighteen laps.
At the start, the top three held their positions, but on the exit of the third corner, Bedrin Beganovich attacked and took the lead in the race. Intrafuvasak held on to third place, but towards the end of the first lap, race control reported a technical infringement, without giving further details. Stewards will investigate the incident after the race.
On the second lap, the virtual safety car was activated so that the marshals could roll the car of Matias Zagazeta, who had stopped fighting on the first lap due to a broken rear suspension after contact with the car of Marie Boi, behind the protective barrier. The race resumed on the third lap.
Since the Hungarian circuit is not conducive to overtaking, the drivers drove the first few laps rather cautiously. On lap six, Voisin began to make attempts to attack Intrafuvasak – there was even an easy contract between them in the second corner, but there was no exchange of positions.
On lap eight the positions in the top ten were exchanged – in the second corner Luke Browning overtook Sami Megetunif in the battle for ninth place.
On the tenth lap, Beganovich tried to attack Bedrin while braking in the second corner. Dino almost made contact, went off the track and dropped to third place, passing Intrafuwasak.
Behind them, Tim Tramnitz overtook Voisin for fourth place. After a few more laps, the Rodin driver was overtaken by Christian Mansell.
On the fifteenth lap, Mansell attempted to attack Tramnitz under braking into the first corner, but Tim crossed the line and regained fourth place on the exit of the corner.
Nikita Bedrin confidently took the race to victory. The success of the Aix Racing team was consolidated by Tasanapol Intrafuvasak, for whom the second place at the finish was his best result at the finish. Dino Beganovic finished third and reached the podium for the third time this season.
Championship leader Gabriele Mini finished fourteenth and earned no points. With three points for eighth place, Luke Browning moved ahead of Arvid Lidblad in the drivers’ standings to second place. The best lap of the race was achieved by Joseph Loak, who finished twenty-sixth.
