Oscar Piastri’s second season in Formula 1 is going very well, the young Australian has already opened his book of victories by winning the Hungarian Grand Prix, and after 14 stages he is in fourth place in the individual standings. At the same time, he is only 10 points behind Charles Leclerc, who completes the top three, so the picture could change.
Oscar stresses that the support he receives at McLaren, especially from Andrea Stella, the team manager, helps him achieve good results.
“Andrea is making a significant contribution to McLaren’s success and to my success in Formula 1,” Piastri told Australian publication Speedcafe. “First of all, his wealth of experience helps him, having worked in a team that won races and championships. He knows how to do it, but more importantly, he has a natural talent for leadership, which is great. It’s a pleasure to work with such a team leader.
I also have a great relationship with Zac Brown (CEO of McLaren Racing). Obviously his goal is to have good people in the team, so that McLaren has good business partners who help finance the team, but also help to achieve better results through technology collaboration.
Andrea and Zach are very different people, but I think they balance each other out pretty well.”
In early August, McLaren announced the extension of a multi-year contract with Andrea Stella.
