Elbon: We can fight without a fast car

Alex Albon came close to scoring points in Imola, finishing 11th and was pleased with his performance. His teammate Nicholas Latifi finished sixteenth. In the Constructors’ Championship, Williams’ team dropped from ninth to tenth place.

Alex Albon (11th): “I am very satisfied with today’s result. We took advantage of the opportunities and overtook several rivals thanks to the pace we had. At this stage, the team brought a rear wing with an updated configuration, which helped me a lot to maintain my position in the second part of the race against Pierre Gasly.

It’s a shame that just one place wasn’t enough to earn points, but we took the opportunities, acted differently and showed that we can fight for positions without having a fast car.

I was hoping that permission to use DRS would come sooner. For six or seven laps I was faster than the competitors up front, and if I could use DRS I would immediately overtake them. However, when DRS became available, I wished the competition didn’t have this option!

All in all, another positive weekend for the team. Now we’re going to Miami.”

Nicholas Latific (16th): “The race certainly turned out to be difficult, but that was to be expected when it started to rain before the start. The conditions at the start were very similar to what we saw on this track last year, so I’m happy to finish today!

It was important for me to gain this experience in order to continue to increase the confidence in the car, which I still don’t have. I think we took steps in this direction and our speed to the finish on Medium tires was relatively high.”
