Oscar Piastri finished fourth at Zandvoort, more than twenty-seven seconds behind teammate Lando Norris. The Australian McLaren driver admitted that he performed below his capabilities, and the low result in the race was the result of a failed qualifying.
Oscar Piastri: “The result of the race was influenced by my performance in qualifying. I wasn’t competitive enough when it mattered. The start didn’t help either and in a way pushed us into a corner.
On an empty track I showed good pace and the car was clearly fast in the race, but I was within a second of another car for 60 of the 72 laps, which made the race quite painful.
Ultimately, I wasn’t able to perform at Lando’s level this weekend, so there are definitely things I need to work on. Being stuck in traffic during the race only made my job harder. But the good news is that we have a fast car and now I need to make sure I’m in the fight.
When your partner has a lead of more than twenty seconds on you, it becomes clear that you need to improve. I will do my best to get back into the game in the next phase.”
