The stewards reviewed George Russell’s actions during qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, when the Mercedes driver failed to slow down in the yellow flag zone.
Yellow flags appeared on the track at the moment that Carlos Sainz went off the track in the second corner. Russell, who was driving behind, was already concentrating on braking at that moment, and when a yellow flag appeared to his right, he could no longer see it, and if he had seen it, he would no longer be able to change his braking.
After exiting the corner, Russell started accelerating as usual, as he saw green flags on the panel between the second and third corners. However, George did not use DRS, as the system was automatically disabled.
The stewards took into account that Russell could not see the yellow flags and therefore limited themselves to a race warning for the Mercedes driver instead of a more severe penalty with a loss of position at the start.
