Franco Colapinto made a brilliant debut in Formula 1, scoring four points for eighth place in the second race of his career. With his confident performance in Baku, the young Argentinian driver caught the attention not only of fans, but also of Sauber’s management.
The Swiss Blick, well informed about everything that happens in Hinwil, writes that the team management, together with Valtteri Bottas and Gabriele Bortoleto, is considering Franco’s candidacy. At the same time, it is likely that Sauber will not rush and will continue to closely monitor the results of the Williams driver in the remaining races of the season.
Colapinto, in turn, expects that the collaboration with Williams will help him build the necessary reputation, which will allow him to get a permanent contract in the future.
“Williams showed confidence and belief in me by putting me behind the wheel,” Franco said after the race in Baku. “It was a very risky decision that many did not understand. But I hope that with my results I show that I deserve a place in Formula 1.
I work hard and try to learn as quickly as possible. I have driven a short distance in Formula 1 – just two races, one first practice session and a few laps in Abu Dhabi last year. Given my limited experience, the points in the second race are a very good result. I will continue to work hard, but it is a good start.”
