Singapore Grand Prix: Track changes and DRS zones

This year, Singapore’s Marina Bay circuit will host the 18th round of the season, and ahead of the start of the race weekend, the FIA shared information about the changes that have taken place on the street circuit, spread across the central areas of the city-state.

First of all, we are talking about the fact that the asphalt surface has been renewed in several parts of the circle. This happened in the following areas:

– from the entrance to the 3rd exit and to the 8th exit;
– from the 10th exit to the 12th exit;
– from the exit of the 14th to the entrance of the 16th;
– from the exit of the 16th to the exit of the 17th bend.

In turns 2 and 3, artificial turf has been removed from the right side of the track.

A new 4-metre wide gate has been installed on the right side of bend 5, and a new 6-metre wide gate has also been installed on the left side of the track at bend 15.

Another major innovation is the fact that a 4th DRS zone has appeared on the track. In this zone, the measuring point is 105 metres after the top of Turn 17 and the activation point is at the exit of Turn 19.

The issue of an additional DRS zone was discussed a year ago, but at that time the teams could not reach an agreement, but now an agreement has been reached between all parties.
