Max Verstappen set the second fastest time in qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix and will start from the front row for the first time since the Zandvoort stage. Qualifying was not successful for his Red Bull Racing teammate – Sergio Perez will have to start outside the top ten for the seventh time this season.
Max Verstappen (2nd): “I think qualifying went pretty well for us. The car got better with every run and I’m happy to qualify on the front row, given the form we were in on Friday.
The final proved to be difficult. My first round was disallowed due to double yellow flags. After that, like almost everyone else, I only had one attempt left, so I didn’t want to overdo it – it was important not to go over the line. I managed to show for the second time, and I’m happy with it.
“There were no problems with the tyres in qualifying, but we’ll see what happens tomorrow. Anything can happen in Singapore. But at least we have a chance from second place.”
Sergio Perez (13th): “It was a surprise for me that nothing worked in the second part of qualifying, because in the first session we made good progress. I was only two to three tenths slower than in the first session, because I couldn’t get the rear tyres to work. That was the biggest problem.
The team has a difficult weekend. It will be a long race tomorrow, but I hope we can keep losses to a minimum. It will be difficult to catch up, but I will try to do everything in my power, and the team and I will come up with something with a strategy. I hope we can earn points and minimize losses.”
