After qualifying at the Singapore circuit, one of the most difficult for Aston Martin, team principal Mike Krak again did not skimp on praise for Fernando Alonso, who yesterday achieved a very respectable 7th result.
Mike Krak: “The qualifying was very intense. I always say that your life is shortened by a week, if not a month, in such a session. Sometimes you manage to gain back a tenth or half a tenth, sometimes not.
As we saw in Baku, Fernando almost dropped out of the fight there, but then Norris had problems. And now Lance was about ten minutes away from the second session. In his case, we did not manage to achieve a good balance of the car, which affected the speed. And if on such a circuit, where the barriers are so close, the car does not have the right balance and the driver does not feel confident behind the wheel, it will be difficult for him.
But Fernando keeps surprising us. Every week we talk about how he gets the car going at a more or less normal pace and that’s why he shows such results. I analyse the telemetry and I can honestly say that I don’t understand how he does it.
In my opinion, Fernando once said that the right work of the team that works with him in his half of the garage helps him, including choosing the right moment to put the car on the track. All this is the result of a joint effort, although it is clear that a master of this level knows how to squeeze a little more out of the car. This is difficult and not everyone can do it, but we are very happy that he plays for our team.
We have to admit that the season is not going as we wanted, although it could have been worse. But the car will get some updates soon, and let’s hope it works. We spent a lot of time and effort to figure out our AMR24, but we also see from the example of other teams that new products in some cases prove to be quite effective, in other cases they work worse. We were in a similar situation last year…
But now it’s our job to reach the finish of the next race and earn points…’
