Formula 1 team RB announced on social media the departure of the Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo .
He will be replaced by a New Zealander for the last six Grands Prix of the 2024 season. Liam Lawson .
“Ricciardo brought a lot of experience and talent to the team, demonstrating a fantastic attitude that helped to strengthen everyone’s team spirit,” said RB boss Laurent Mekies.
Last season, Lawson already replaced Ricciardo, who had broken his arm, at several stages within the team, which was then called Alpha Tauri. The New Zealander scored two points in the 2023 championship.
The Singapore race, held on September 22, was the last for Ricciardo, 35, this season. In it, the Australian took the fastest lap from Lando Norris (McLaren) shortly before the finish. As a result, the Briton, second in the individual standings, lost a point.
Ricciardo currently has no contract for next year; the Australian could end his Formula 1 career.
