Sergio Perez says he has no plans to retire

We have already talked about the latest rumors that Sergio Perez will announce his retirement at the end of the season during the Mexico City Grand Prix. However, in an interview with Spanish TV channel DAZN, given in Singapore, the Red Bull Racing driver said that he intends to complete the current contract, which runs until the end of 2026.

Sergio Perez: “For the last six months I have been thinking about leaving, but it took me three seconds to make a decision. In the end, leaving is the easiest way. In a way, it would mean that I had given up. But I will never do that, because I do not forgive myself.

I want to end my career when I want to, not when someone tells me to. My job is to determine my future independently.

Now I am very motivated and I want to continue racing in Formula 1 because I like it. I have two more seasons on my contract, but two years in Formula 1 is a long time. I know that the end of my career is getting closer. I have not seen myself competing for years, like Fernando Alonso, who I really admire for everything he does at his age. I have small children and I want to spend much more time with them.

Given that the Formula 1 calendar has 24 Grands Prix, the schedule is very busy, but I will definitely continue to compete for another two years. However, I don’t see myself spending more than that time in Formula 1.”
