German marketing agency ONE8Y conducted a sociological survey to find out how much public interest there is in Mick Schumacher.
Survey participants were asked to answer the question whether they would like to see the son of the seven-time world champion as part of the future Audi factory team, and 78% answered in the affirmative.
Christoph Breuer, a specialist in sports economics, commented on this on Sky Deutschland: “Mick is a German racer, and for Audi this would be a completely logical story that could significantly increase the interest of German fans and become a stimulus for growth of the popularity of Formula 1.
In addition to the purely sporting aspect, don’t forget the marketing aspect: Mick has twice as much audience on social media as Nico Hulkenberg.”
At the same time, Sauber/Audi is rumored to be inclined to extend the contract with Valtteri Bottas, so that two veterans, a German and a Finn, will participate next year.
Mark Zurer, a former driver who now commentates on Formula 1 on Swiss TV, is not sure about the correctness of this decision and advises the team management to take their time: “Instead of signing a contract with Bottas, who seems to perform without This year they should give Mick Schumacher, a young driver hungry for success but already experienced, the opportunity to grow with the team.
In the two seasons he spent at Haas, he did not get the chance to demonstrate his true potential. In fact, he is a very fast man who can also overtake.”
This season, Schumacher Jr. has mastered successfully created a new discipline for himself: he participates in endurance races as part of the Alpine factory team and recently stood on the podium for the first time.
