In 2025, Lewis Hamilton will appear at the start in a red overall and a Ferrari. Jackie Stewart said he was surprised by the seven-time world champion’s decision to leave Mercedes.
Jackie Stewart: “I was surprised by Lewis’s decision as, at the age of 40, he is joining a team that has only recently returned to competitiveness. In recent years, Ferrari has suffered greatly as the team had many management structures that led to destruction.
There is now a more stable environment in the team and Lewis sees that. On the other hand, in Formula 1 it is more difficult to find another brand that has the same continuity over time.
But for Lewis, the transition at age 40 will be more difficult than if he had made the transition at age 25 or 30. But he still has skill and talent, as we saw at Silverstone this year. Moving to Ferrari is an unusual decision and he will have to retire at some point. He feels that the time is not yet ripe for this and I can understand him.”
