Jack Crawford: I’m still fighting for the title

Ahead of the US Grand Prix in Austin, Aston Martin Youth Program member Jack Crawford spoke about AMR22 demo runs on the streets of his native Houston, the growing popularity of Formula 1 in the US and the battle for Formula 2 title with two rounds. before the end of the season.

Q: You just drove an AMR22 in Houston, where you grew up. Tell us about it…
Jack Crawford: I literally rode where I grew up, for my friends and family. I spent the night at home, woke up and that same day I got behind the wheel of Formula 1 – it was surreal.

I drove down the streets where I had dinner with my parents or went to a baseball game, and now that I visit different places in the city for the rest of my life, I will be able to say that I ate a few donuts on that street while driving in a Formula 1.

Very few people are allowed to drive a Formula 1 car, and even fewer are allowed to drive on the streets where they grew up as children. This is amazing.

Question: The popularity of Formula 1 in the US continues to grow. How does this affect the support you receive as an American racer?
Jack Crawford: Every year, as the popularity of Formula 1 grew in the US, I became more and more recognized, and with that the support grew.

I’m glad that Americans my age are not only interested in Formula 1, but also in support racing. I have many friends who can now watch my races on TV in the US.

When I started following Formula 1, only the races were shown on TV, without training or qualifying. Now you can watch every Formula 1 session and Formula 2 race. It’s the same as with other sports: when Major League becomes popular, fans want to know what new names are joining the youth series.

Question: There are still two stages left in the Formula 2 season: in Qatar and in Abu Dhabi you continue to fight for the title. What do you think of this fight?
Jack Crawford: The stages in Monza and Baku were not the best for us. We knew it wouldn’t be easy given the way we were set up, but we still scored some important points and I was on the podium in the sprint. Winning the race is certainly the goal, but it is important to earn points consistently.

There are still two stages to go, there is a chance. Mathematically I can still win the title if I get really good results, but realistically I would like to finish the season in the top three. The circuits in Qatar and Abu Dhabi should suit our car and my style. We will soon find out what will ultimately happen.

Question: What’s on your agenda with Aston Martin in the coming months?
Jack Crawford: After the Formula 2 round in Baku I spent a lot of time on the simulator at the base, and this work will continue until the Las Vegas Grand Prix. She helps me move forward.

I’m looking forward to spending this weekend with the team in Austin and seeing them work as the weekend progresses. The same goes for my program in Las Vegas, where we will have an impressive weekend.
